When John and Dennis Odem are not doing legal work, they spend their time flying airplanes and helicopters, or performing with their band, The Country Legends Band. Both John and Dennis Odem are commercial pilots, licensed to fly both airplanes and helicopters.

John Odem

At the age of 18 John became the youngest certified commercial helicopter pilot in the U.S. and possibly the world, according to his FAA examiner. Since five years old, John has been flying airplanes with his father, Dennis. John had mastered landing airplanes and started flying helicopters by the age of 10.

Much publicity has been generated by magazines, newspaper articles, and events appearances highlighting the Odem family pilots. Dennis Odem served as a Waterloo judge for 15 years, using a seaplane for transportation.

John has been flying with his father since age five. He first flew a helicopter solo at the age of fifteen.
